Preparation
Find the perfect container to host your DIY candle. The container should be candle safe and ideally be made of thick glass, metal or non-porous ceramics.
And remember, you should always avoid:
- Flammable materials such as coconut shells, wood or plastic. For example, canning jars are a great recyclable option as they are designed to withstand hot temperatures
- Any containers that have imperfections such as cracks and leaks.
Wick Selection
Included in the kit are:
- 2 small wicks that create a 5.6cm burn circle (HTP105 wick)
- 1 large wick that creates an 8.2cm burn circle (HTP XL100 wick).
Once you have chosen your wick/s, use the provided stickums to secure your wick, carefully deciding on the placement in the container.
Peel the tab off one side, apply firmly to the bottom of your wick and then position it in your container. If using one wick, apply it to the centre. If using two or more, space evenly but not too close to the sides.
To secure the wick, slide the wick between the chopstick to hold the wick straight and in place, and then sit the chopstick across the rim of the candle.
Melting
1. Break the cap seal so it's easier to open once heated.
2. Retighten the cap to finger tightness
3. Place the pouch in the microwave.
1000W Microwaves: Full power for 2 minutes*
For different powered microwaves, adjust heating time according to the manufacturer's instructions or see the table below for a guide on different microwaves
Continue at 10-second intervals until pouch contents are completely melted.
Pouring and Perfecting your DIY candle
Remove the pouch from the microwave.Allow to stand for 10 minutes to achieve an ideal temperature of 60°C.Gently agitate contents ensuring well blended and remove the spout cap.Slowly pour contents into your prepared container leaving approx. 1cm from the top.Leave the candle to set for a minimum of 24 hours.
Reminders:
Safety first. Print a candle label to remind you of the safety aspects when burning candles. Always burn within sight. Keep away from flammable materials. Keep away from children and pets. Keep the wick trimmed. Do not move the candle while burning or hot.
