Each pouch contains 420g grams of premixed scented or unscented wax. When melted in the pouch and in liquid form it equates to approximately 480mls of water. So to calculate how many pouches you need to create your amazing candle thoroughly clean your candle container, then fill up your container with water. Measure this water in a measuring cup to estimate how many pouches of our natural wax you will need.
We generally don't recommend you mix scented pouches together as these are wonderful scents to give you the most unique experience and will alter the scents creations. If you would like a subtle scent you could mix an unscented pouch with a scented pouch by carefully pouring melted contents of both pouches into a seperate jug, gently mixing and pouring into your candle container.
No. Gently swirl the wax around in the pouch, this is often enough to melt those solid bits. Alternatively you can place the pouch in the microwave and only use 10 seconds of power before rechecking to see if those solid belts have melted. Repeat at 10 seconds bursts until the contents of the pouch are completely liquid.
With all of our testing we have found the cap seal to be extra resistant to breaking after being heated in the microwave leading to unnecessary force to open the pouch cap and possibly spilling hot wax on yourself. Alternatively wait the full 10 minutes before trying to break the pouch cap seal.
We have found through testing, the wax in the spout is more resistant to melting - due to the thicker plastic surrounding it – instead of replacing the pouch in the microwave simply use one end of the wick holder to push the wax plug back into the pouch where the rest of the heated wax will melt it allowing free flowing and easy pouring.
This is not recommended as it will drown your wick. Burn your candle and discontinue when 6mm wax remains. Then follow the How To instructions on making a new candle with any leftover pouch wax.
Find the perfect container to host your DIY candle. The container should be candle safe and ideally be made of thick glass, metal or non-porous ceramics.
And remember, you should always avoid:
- Flammable materials such as coconut shells, wood or plastic. For example, canning jars are a great recyclable option as they are designed to withstand hot temperatures
- Any containers that have imperfections such as cracks and leaks.
